Session 37, VP2
Having much on their minds, most of the party retired for the evening. Ariela and Lauren spent a bit longer speaking to Ivar about other topics before calling it for the night- though Lauren made a brief sojourn afield alone. In the morning, the party spoke with Herleif, thanking him again for his help earlier. When asked if he would like to join the next leg of their quest, he politely and nervously declined. A final visit was paid to Brunick, who wished them all the speed and luck the group needed.
As they were preparing to leave Forgerun, they luckily
remembered something important: though Sylvie had taught the nurse how to make
the stopgap antidotes, they had forgotten that the townsfolk would have no
way to generate the required Spicy Gulpin sweat. One brief jaunt to the
Pokémon Center later, Spicy Meatball was left behind as a guest for the
townsfolk.
The group travelled northeast, getting clear of the toxic
mist. Outside its sphere of influence, the Varfjell Fields were as lively as
usual- a welcome change of pace. During a rest, the trainers debated the path
they could take to reach Mani’s Bed. Unfortunately, there was no “straight
line” option, unless they suddenly sprouted gills or wings.
Since the trip would take some time, they resolved to make a
few stops along the way. If they continued in their current heading, they could
pass through one of the valleys of Skald’s Echo, to then Streamsford. From
there, it would be easy to wend towards Hammerfest, and arc towards Mani’s Bed.
With that settled, they began walking once more. Keeping an
eye out for any nearby Pokémon, Bronze was able to detect a small group of
Electric types gathered together. Scoping the scene out revealed 5 Electric
Pokémon all taking turns attempting to shock a Dugtrio, to no effect. Each time
one of the attacks failed, the mole Pokémon laughed derisively.
Feeling a kinship with the Electric types, particularly the
Luxio, Bronze managed to explain that they would need to use other types of
moves, as Dugtrio was immune to electricity. The Luxio put this knowledge to
good use, headbutting into the Dugtrio. The Ground type immediately reacted
with a powerful Magnitude, causing large amounts of damage to several of the
wild Electric types.
The party quickly joined in to help the out-gunned pack.
They managed to take down the Dugtrio handily- only for two more to take its
place. Things grew a bit hairy as the Dugtrios lashed out with area of effect
attacks, but teamwork was able to push through their assault. After taking some
damage and losses, all three of the Dugtrios had been defeated. The wounded
Electric types seemed grateful for the assist, as they retreated into the tall
grass to rest.
A few more hours travel brought our heroes closer to Skald’s
Echo. The base of the nearest peak was roughly half a day’s walk away by the
time the sun had set. For now, they would rest. The better to deal with any
unfamiliar risks the mountains might provide……
